ABA Joins Association Community to Raise Money for Shoes for Washington D.C.’s Homeless Children
ABA has joined a number of D.C.-based associations to help raise awareness and money for Soles4theDistrict. An organization that provides new sneakers to homeless children throughout the District for school. We have pledge raising $10,000 during this campaign. There are 1.5 million children across the country who are experiencing homelessness, and 6,500 right here in DC Public Schools. While many organizations focus on the critical needs of food and shelter, school officials share that shoes are essential for students to succeed. Through its 4EveryKid program, Soles4Souls aims to provide new shoes each year to these students. Something as simple as a new pair of shoes means opportunity for these kids: it raises their confidence, improves their school performance and attendance, and allows them to stay active through sports and extracurricular activities.
Soles4theDistrict is bringing the DC Association community together for one simple goal – raise $130,000 to ensure that all kids facing housing instability and homelessness in DCPS will have a new pair of athletic shoes at the start of the school year (a pair of shoes costs about $20 per pair).
The campaign kicked off in June and will culminate with a 4EveryKid event at a DC school in September, where you will be able to see your impact in action as we provide new shoes to all students at that school.
