Rich Gilbert Receives the 2025 Wayne Chandler Spirit of Partnership Award

The American Bus Association has announced Rich Gilbert, Travel Trade Sales Manager for the Maryland Office of Tourism, as the 2025 Wayne Chandler Spirit of Partnership Award recipient. The award, now in its fourth year, honors individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership, collaboration, and commitment to the travel and tourism industry.

A Legacy of Partnership

The award is named in memory of Wayne Chandler, a respected industry leader who dedicated more than three decades to hospitality and tourism. Chandler’s career spanned roles at Opryland USA, Gaylord Attractions, and Opry Entertainment Group, where he was known for his passion, creativity, and ability to unite people. A strong advocate for industry partnerships, he also served on National Tour Association (NTA), Student & Youth Travel Association (SYTA), and the Ontario Motor Coach Association (OMCA) boards.

Since Chandler’s passing in 2020, the award has recognized individuals who uphold his values of teamwork and relationship-building—qualities that made him a beloved figure in the industry.

Rich Gilbert Recognized for Industry Contributions

Rich was selected from a competitive pool of nominees, receiving eight separate nominations from industry colleagues who praised his leadership, mentorship, and dedication to fostering connections. Described as a go-to resource for guidance, Rich is known for bringing people together, his familiar presence at ABA events, and his enthusiasm for the industry.

Colleagues highlighted his commitment to welcoming new delegates, volunteering, and championing industry initiatives. His energetic personality, passion for his home state of Maryland, and well-known support for the Baltimore Ravens have made him a recognizable and respected leader within the travel trade community.

Honoring Excellence in Tourism

The Wayne Chandler Spirit of Partnership Award continues to serve as a reminder of the values that drive the travel and tourism industry forward. As the 2025 recipient, Rich Gilbert joins a distinguished group of honorees recognized for their dedication to building relationships and strengthening the industry.
