BISC Summer Meeting 2025: Innovation, Safety, and Collaboration
A committed focus on safety is shaping safe, reliable motorcoach travel

The 2025 Bus Industry Safety Council (BISC) Summer Meeting in Minneapolis last week brought together motorcoach professionals from across the country to focus on what matters most: safety, innovation, and working together to move our industry forward. This year’s event had energy and participation unlike I’ve seen before, showing how BISC is the place where ideas turn into action.

Raising the Bar on Safety
From the start of the BISC Summer Meeting, the key takeaway was clear: safety begins with leadership and daily practice. The Safety Director 101 and 201 courses provided participants with practical tools they could apply to their teams immediately, helping to strengthen operations and reinforce a culture of safety. A session with the TSA reminded us of the vital role industry leaders play in creating a secure travel environment, emphasizing that safety isn’t just a compliance requirement – it’s a shared responsibility.
Technology and New Partnerships
One of BISC’s strengths is bringing together innovators who are shaping the future of transportation. First-time sponsors Netradyne, EyeRide, Nauto, and Samsara showcased technology solutions that are already changing how we think about fleet safety, real-time monitoring, and predictive analytics. OEMs from Prevost, MCI, and ABC Companies also joined critical conversations about maintenance challenges and the growing mechanic workforce shortage – two issues that will define how operators prepare for the future.
Spotlighting Fresh Ideas
This year also marked the debut of BISC’s “Best Idea Contest,” where attendees presented creative solutions in safety, maintenance, and operations. Winners were selected by popular vote, and a panel of experts discussed how those ideas could be put into practice. It was a great reminder that sometimes the best innovations come directly from the field, and that collaboration is key to making them a reality.
Learning from Inspectors
Beyond our Summer Meeting, also happening in Minneapolis last week was the North American Inspector Competition. Greyhound was proud to provide buses for the event, which allowed participants to see firsthand the skill and precision inspectors apply under time pressure. For drivers and operators, serving as volunteers in this competition offered valuable insight into how compliance checks work – and how we can continue building stronger partnerships with inspectors to improve outcomes across the board.
Moving Forward Together
As Vice Chairman of BISC, I’m grateful for the chance to contribute to this industry and for Greyhound’s continued support of those efforts. What makes BISC special is not only the training, panels, or competitions – it’s the shared commitment to learning from one another and pushing the industry forward. For anyone considering attending future ABC or BISC events, I can’t recommend them enough – they are invaluable opportunities to connect, learn, and help shape the future of safe, reliable motorcoach travel. By staying focused on safety, embracing innovation, and supporting one another, we’re building an industry that is better prepared for the challenges ahead and stronger for the generations of travelers we serve.
