Trailways of New York Introduces Pet-Friendly Travel for Small Furry Companions
Revolutionizing Travel for Pet Families
Trailways of New York has announced an exciting new policy allowing customers to travel with their small dogs and cats. As the first major bus carrier in New York to introduce this pet-friendly initiative, Trailways is making travel more accessible for pet owners across the state. Passengers can now add their pets to their travel reservations, ensuring a seamless and inclusive experience.
“Over 100 million American households have a dog or cat, and of those, over half are small pets,” said Alex Berardi, President of Trailways.com. “We’ve been listening to our customers in cities such as New York City, Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse, and many have expressed the need to travel with their small pets. Pets are part of the family, and this policy allows passengers to bring their furry companions while maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for everyone on board.”
This innovative move highlights Trailways’ dedication to providing affordable, convenient, and reliable transportation for all passengers, including four-legged family members. Trailways has been a trusted name in transportation since 1936, leading the industry in customer-centric policies and services.
Key Policy Highlights
- Pet Size and Carrier Requirements: Pets must fit comfortably in a carrier placed at the passenger’s feet. The combined weight of the pet and carrier cannot exceed 25 pounds, and the carrier’s dimensions must not exceed 18 inches long, 11 inches wide, and 9 inches high.
- Onboard Rules: Pets must remain in their carriers for the entire trip. They should be odorless, quiet, non-aggressive, and require no attention during the journey.
- Fee and Exemptions: A $10 fee per pet per trip applies, payable online or in-person when booking. Service animals remain exempt from this fee. However, comfort and emotional support animals are considered pets under the American Disabilities Act.
- Restrictions: Pets are prohibited on trips crossing international borders or requiring transfers to other bus companies. Trailways reserves the right to refuse or remove pets that exhibit disruptive behavior.
