Show Up, Stand Out: Why Volunteering Matters
When you volunteer, people notice you. And that's a great thing.
When do you start watching holiday movies?
One of my all-time favorites is Home Alone. Honestly, I totally relate to the mom. My kids will even tell you—we almost left Jeremiah behind at the Chicago Field Museum. (Who knew an eighth grader would be off buying a gift for his “girlfriend”?) We were loading into our rideshares (yes, we need two), and I did one final headcount.
“JEREMIAH!”
In the middle of all the holiday chaos, it’s easy to lose sight of what really matters. So, as you get ready for the Road to Reno and ABA Marketplace, don’t forget: volunteering is a huge part of the experience—and the networking in return!
As the amazing Patti Lloyd once told me,
“The value of volunteering is huge because of the ability to meet and network with everyone in one venue. I’ve taken back best practices and connected with so many fellow suppliers. ABA has always felt like a family—so welcoming. It can feel overwhelming if you’re not super outgoing, but Marketplace makes it easy to feel included.”
And she’s right. When you volunteer, people notice you. They remember you. Honestly, some of my closest friendships started while stuffing bags or setting up name tags side by side with others.
So take 10 minutes—seriously, you need a brain break anyway—and check out all the volunteer opportunities. Then SIGN UP.
Let’s make this year extra special and honor Patti Lloyd by filling every volunteer spot before the Christmas holiday break.
Let’s not have a “KEVIN!” moment this year. (Seriously, go watch Home Alone again. You deserve the break!)
I want to know you’re exactly where you’re meant to be—volunteering.
