Remembering Sue Bubel: A Legacy of Leadership, Laughter, and Lifelong Dedication

The motorcoach family has lost an industry legend

Share

The motorcoach and intercity bus community is mourning the loss of one of its most dedicated champions, Suzanne “Sue” Bubel, who passed away recently after a lifetime of service, leadership, and friendship in the industry. Known affectionately simply as Sue, her impact stretched across decades and left an indelible mark on generations of transportation professionals.

A trailblazer in every sense, Sue Bubel broke new ground as the first female Chair of the National Bus Traffic Association (NBTA), a position she held for more than a decade with unwavering energy and insight. Long before diversity and inclusion became industry priorities, Sue was already leading by example—setting the standard not only for how to lead, but how to lift others along the way.

Sue’s career spanned 49 years with Greyhound Lines, where her deep knowledge of interline and intercity operations earned her widespread respect. She was more than a voice at the table—she was often the voice that made the table stronger. As a long-serving NBTA Board member and frequent committee chair, she generously gave of her time and talent, mentoring newcomers, coordinating initiatives, and helping the industry navigate both challenges and change.

Those who had the privilege to know Sue recall her not just for her strategic mind but for her unmistakable warmth. She was quick to share a story, offer a word of encouragement, or reminisce about past NBTA annual meetings, casino trips, and her love of car shows. Her sense of humor and camaraderie created lasting bonds, and her ability to make others feel seen and valued set her apart as both a colleague and a friend.

Even in retirement, Sue remained deeply connected to the industry she loved, staying informed on developments and offering guidance to those who followed in her footsteps. She exemplified what it means to be a mentor, and her legacy will continue through the many lives she influenced.

Services to honor Sue Bubel’s life and legacy will be held on:
