BEWARE: ABA Marketplace Scams

We want to bring to your immediate attention a concerning issue that has arisen in the last few days. There has been an increasing number of scam calls targeting our members and Marketplace registrants regarding hotel reservations.

Important Details:

Scam Activity: The most prolific scam call is coming from 800-878-0113 from an individual named "Joseph." This caller is falsely claiming to offer an early bird rate for hotel stays in Philadelphia.

Our Process: ABA will be opening up hotel reservations on August 9, and we are not using any third-party affiliate to call you about those reservations, secure "special" low rates, or other offers. These calls are scams.

Action Steps

Do Not Engage: If you receive such a call from 800-878-0113 or other unfamiliar number, we suggest blocking the number to remove further contact from the scammer.

Official Reservations: The only way to secure your hotel reservations is through ABA and the Marketplace website. Information on how to make reservations will be posted on August 9, and we will send out a notice to all current registered attendees with information on how to secure your hotel booking.

ABA is committed to ensuring your safety and the security of your information. Please remain vigilant and do not engage with these fraudulent calls. If you have any questions or need further assistance, do not hesitate to contact us directly at (800) 283-2877.

The Road to a Stronger Future

The American Bus Association stands at a pivotal moment in its history. As we emerge from the disruptions of the past few years, our industry is facing a period of significant transformation. Market conditions are stabilizing, yet new challenges continue to arise. We’re all navigating shifting expectations in personal and group travel, managing the pressures of rising costs, and responding to ongoing regulatory changes. Meanwhile, evolving demographics and changing leisure patterns demand that we continuously adapt.

These challenges are formidable, but the resilience and spirit of the ABA community are even stronger.

We are the connectors of people and places.

We are the advocates for innovation and growth. We enable mobility, connection, and opportunity through our diverse membership and the industries they serve.

Over the past month, I’ve had the privilege of meeting with our staff, members, and association leaders. These conversations have given me a deeper understanding of the challenges we face and the opportunities we have to expand our impact. I’m inspired by the passion and commitment I’ve witnessed and more confident than ever in our ability to lead this industry forward.

We’re at a unique moment where we can engage new communities and bring fresh perspectives into our coalition. This could include younger riders, historically underrepresented communities, or persons who might just want a new way to travel.

By broadening our outreach and inviting new stakeholders to join us, we can strengthen our collective voice and ensure that ABA remains a driving force in the years to come.

As we approach the American Bus Association’s 100th anniversary in 2026, we must embrace this opportunity to tell our story, expand our influence, and continue our legacy of connection and advocacy.

I’m honored and humbled to lead ABA into its next era. We are so much bigger, broader, and more impactful than most realize.

Together, we will navigate these changes and build a stronger future for our industry.

Sincerely,

FRED FERGUSON
