Motorcoach Companies Helping Communities Devastated by Hurricane Helene

Hurricane Helene has left widespread destruction, impacting thousands of families and communities along the Atlantic Coast. Now, more than ever, our efforts can make a difference. Several motorcoach companies are stepping up to provide essential support, supplies, and aid to help these communities recover. Join us in this relief effort by donating or volunteering.

How You Can Help

You can get involved in the following ways:

  • Monetary Donations: Financial contributions go directly toward providing essentials like food, water, and shelter for those affected. You can donate directly to local relief organizations.
  • Supply Donations: Essential items like bottled water, canned goods, hygiene products, blankets, and first aid supplies are urgently needed. Find local drop-off points where you can bring these much-needed supplies.
  • Volunteer: Consider volunteering your time to help distribute supplies or assist with rebuilding efforts. Local organizations and motorcoach companies are organizing efforts to transport volunteers and supplies to the affected areas.

Meet HMC Chair Bill Torres from DC Trails

Name: William and Liliana Torres
Company: DC TRAILS, INC.
City, State:  Lorton, Va.
Years in the Industry: Since 1987

How did you first get involved in the industry?

I started DC Trails in 2000. A veteran and former motor officer assigned to the DC police special operation division, I have been serving the public for almost 30 years and gained my leadership and mechanical experience while heading a platoon responsible for the transportation needs of my division.

Who has inspired your career?

My father inspired my career… he was a truck driver. I bring to the operation and maintenance of a fleet of 66 buses, the same care and attention to detail that I learned in the military. I developed a passion for driving and fixing large commercial vehicles (Buses and Trucks) as a young child, while hanging out with my father while he was a truck driver.

What has been the greatest challenge/opportunity in your career?

The greatest challenge of my career has been surviving the multiple industry devastating events such as 9/11, the Beltway Sniper, and Covid-19.

What advice would you give to others about working in this industry?

Follow the rules and regulations and to join as many different organizations that are there to help you stay alert to any changes related to the industry.

Why is it important for you to belong to Hispanic Motorcoach Council?

As a member of the HMC and ABA, you are entitled to a variety of association benefits that will serve your unique needs: a legislative voice, regulatory watchdog activities, money-saving services, connections to other operators and suppliers, regular communications, an annual meeting, specialized safety training and much, much more… Providing safety related guidance to fellow members has been a highlight of my membership with HMC and ABA.
