BEWARE: ABA Marketplace Scams

We want to bring to your immediate attention a concerning issue that has arisen in the last few days. There has been an increasing number of scam calls targeting our members and Marketplace registrants regarding hotel reservations.

Important Details:

Scam Activity: The most prolific scam call is coming from 800-878-0113 from an individual named "Joseph." This caller is falsely claiming to offer an early bird rate for hotel stays in Philadelphia.

Our Process: ABA will be opening up hotel reservations on August 9, and we are not using any third-party affiliate to call you about those reservations, secure "special" low rates, or other offers. These calls are scams.

Action Steps

Do Not Engage: If you receive such a call from 800-878-0113 or other unfamiliar number, we suggest blocking the number to remove further contact from the scammer.

Official Reservations: The only way to secure your hotel reservations is through ABA and the Marketplace website. Information on how to make reservations will be posted on August 9, and we will send out a notice to all current registered attendees with information on how to secure your hotel booking.

ABA is committed to ensuring your safety and the security of your information. Please remain vigilant and do not engage with these fraudulent calls. If you have any questions or need further assistance, do not hesitate to contact us directly at (800) 283-2877.

It’s National Women’s Small Business Month! Meet WIB Member Timi Kauffman with Timi's Tours

Name: Timi Hall Kaufman
Company: Timi’s Tours
City, State: Moweaqua, Ill.
Years in the Industry: 17 years

How did you first get involved in the industry?

I worked for a direct sales company in Ohio and conducted bus tours to the home office for several years. I fell in love with the bus world! When that career ended I decided to try booking trips starting in 2006 with a few and each year we’ve grown to what is now 80+ tours domestically and around the world. When our transportation provider was no longer available in 2018 we purchased our first J4500 for our own use and we’ve rapidly grown to more than 20 units ranging from coaches, mini busses, Sprinters and SUV’s.

Who has inspired your career?

My inspiration comes from my gift of serving others. My parents owned their own business for more than 50 years which I was a part of and I witnessed first hand their strong work ethic and what it takes to be successfu l- determination and grit.

What has been the greatest challenge/opportunity in your career?

The greatest challenge has to be COVID and being shut down with all the debt of our coaches, buildings etc. like everyone else in the industry. The greatest opportunity for me is seeing the world and making people happy through travel.

What advice would you give to others about working in this industry?

I’d say be prepared for many long days and hours. Work hard, make wise decisions, hire a good team and plan ahead for unexpected expenses. Of course be fair and 100 percent honest in all your dealings.

Why is it important for you to belong to Women in Buses Council?

Belonging to WIB is a great network source. I love seeing more woman owners and managers making a difference in the industry.
