BEWARE: ABA Marketplace Scams

We want to bring to your immediate attention a concerning issue that has arisen in the last few days. There has been an increasing number of scam calls targeting our members and Marketplace registrants regarding hotel reservations.

 

Important Details:

Scam Activity: The most prolific scam call is coming from 800-878-0113 from an individual named "Joseph." This caller is falsely claiming to offer an early bird rate for hotel stays in Philadelphia.

Our Process: ABA will be opening up hotel reservations on August 9, and we are not using any third-party affiliate to call you about those reservations, secure "special" low rates, or other offers. These calls are scams.

 

Action Steps

Do Not Engage: If you receive such a call from 800-878-0113 or other unfamiliar number, we suggest blocking the number to remove further contact from the scammer.

Official Reservations: The only way to secure your hotel reservations is through ABA and the Marketplace website. Information on how to make reservations will be posted on August 9, and we will send out a notice to all current registered attendees with information on how to secure your hotel booking.

Industry Mourns Passing of Former METRO and SBF Publisher, Frank Di Giacomo

Former METRO and School Bus Fleet (SBF) Publisher Frank Di Giacomo passed away in Cherry Hill, N.J., on May 9 at the age of 84. Di Giacomo played a significant role in the public transportation, private motorcoach, and pupil transportation industries, having been associated with Bobit Business Media since 1981.

During his tenure, Di Giacomo served as publisher for both SBF and METRO, shaping the direction and content of the magazines. His colleagues remember him as a mentor and friend who embodied integrity and professionalism throughout his career. Di Giacomo was also actively involved in industry organizations such as APTA and NAPT, where he contributed to various committees and received awards for his outstanding service.

Upon his retirement in 2021, Di Giacomo was recognized as Publisher Emeritus for METRO and SBF and was granted a lifetime membership in APTA’s Business Member Board of Governors. His impact extended beyond the publishing realm, as he championed the interests of motorcoach operators through his involvement with industry associations, including ABA and the United Motorcoach Association.

Di Giacomo’s legacy is celebrated by colleagues and peers who remember him as an inspiration and a pillar of the transportation community. His visitation and funeral will be held on May 15 in Cherry Hill, NJ, where friends and family can pay their respects.
