Greyhound’s Crawford Lassiter Honored with CVSA’s 2025 International Driver Excellence Award
Lassiter is the first motorcoach operator in the history of the award

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has named Crawford Lassiter, a veteran Greyhound motorcoach operator, as the recipient of its 2025 International Driver Excellence Award (IDEA). With a remarkable 45-year career and over 2.5 million miles of incident-free driving, Lassiter exemplifies professionalism, safety, and mentorship in the commercial motor vehicle industry.

Lassiter began his career in 1979 after responding to a newspaper ad. An Army veteran, he has spent his entire driving career with Greyhound, rising not only as a top operator but also as a lead driver safety instructor. He trains and mentors new drivers—both at Greyhound and from other companies—sharing his knowledge and passion for roadway safety.
“He’s not just a safe driver; he’s a mentor, a standard-bearer for the company and the whole industry,” said Matthew Maglio, Greyhound Regional Vice President, who nominated Lassiter for the award.
Lassiter learned of his nomination and selection at the same time—and was overwhelmed. “I couldn’t believe it,” he told CVSA.
CVSA President Capt. John Hahn of the Colorado State Patrol praised Lassiter’s leadership and dedication to safety. “He always sets an outstanding example for others to follow,” Hahn said.
In addition to CVSA’s top honor, Lassiter was also recently recognized by the Pennsylvania Bus Association with their Driver of Distinction Award. His perfect safety record and commitment to training the next generation have made him a respected figure throughout the industry.
A firm believer in proactive safety, Lassiter credits the Smith5Keys defensive driving method for his success. His advice to other drivers is simple: “Come in early so you’re not rushing. That really messes up the rest of your day.”
Lassiter is known for his impeccable uniform, polished demeanor, and a love for the road. Outside of work, he enjoys deep sea fishing, riding his motorcycle, driving his Maserati, and spending time with family.
He will be honored during the CVSA Annual Conference and Exhibition in Denver this September, where he will receive a $5,000 award and a crystal trophy. The award is sponsored by PrePass Safety Alliance.
As Maglio put it: “The world needs more Crawford Lassiters.”
