Express Way: What’s New in Calgary
Group-friendly attractions, experiences, and tours get a boost—and plenty of sunshine to boot
Calgary, a vibrant city nestled in the foothills of Canada’s Rocky Mountains, is increasingly becoming a premier destination for motorcoach groups. With its rich tapestry of urban culture, natural beauty, and expanding infrastructure, Canada’s fourth largest destination offers a host of new and exciting opportunities for motorcoach tours. “As the city continues to grow and evolve, several new developments and attractions make it an appealing choice for group travel,” says Alisha Reynolds, president & CEO at Tourism Calgary.
Here’s a look at what’s new for groups visiting Calgary.
Downtown Core and Attractions
Calgary’s downtown continues to evolve with refreshed attractions that appeal to both new visitors and those returning to rediscover the city. Stephen Avenue, Calgary’s historic pedestrian street, offers a welcoming environment with walkable pathways, dynamic public art, and spaces for outdoor events and performances. This iconic area serves as a starting point for tours and is conveniently close to must-visit stops like the Calgary Tower and the newly opened Sam Centre at Stampede Park, which offers interactive exhibits, immersive experiences, and hands-on activities that bring the Stampede’s story to life.
New and Enhanced Culinary Tours
Culinary tours are trending among motorcoach groups, and Calgary is stepping up its game with more specialized food experiences. The city’s dynamic food scene includes newly launched tours that blend Calgary’s rich history with its modern gastronomy. Launched in September, the Iconic Eats of Calgary Food Tour showcases the city’s unique culinary landscape with stops at legendary establishments like the historic Fairmont Palliser. Follow the tour guide on a stroll down Stephen Avenue with tastings at local favorites, such as Annabelle’s Kitchen and The Chocolate Lab.
Indigenous Experiences
Indigenous tourism is seeing a significant rise in interest, and Calgary has introduced new, immersive cultural experiences that groups can now incorporate into their itineraries. These include guided tours of historical sites like Nose Hill Park and a visit to The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland, where visitors can learn about the region’s deep Indigenous history through storytelling, dance, and hands-on workshops.

Arts and Culture
Calgary’s arts and culture scene is also receiving a boost with new exhibitions and performance venues. The transformation of arts hubs like The GRAND Theatre and new exhibits at Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre, offer groups enriched cultural experiences. Seasonal art walks and festivals have also become popular, showing off the city’s artistic side through curated experiences highlighting local artists, live performances, and interactive workshops.
“Calgary’s blend of tradition and modernity makes it an increasingly attractive destination for motorcoach groups,” says Reynolds. “The city’s commitment to enhancing its downtown core, expanding cultural and culinary offerings, and providing new outdoor and adventure activities ensures that group travelers will find plenty to enjoy.”
