Darlene H. Cochran, a passionate and respected figure in the bus industry, passed away on October 10, 2024, after a courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Known for her dedication to transportation and deep commitment to her work, Darlene’s influence was widely felt across the industry, where she championed important issues and provided steadfast leadership for over four decades.

Darlene began her remarkable career in 1973, when she accompanied her sister to apply for a school bus driver position at Pinetree. In an unexpected turn, Darlene was also encouraged to apply and was promptly hired. Within her first year, she was promoted to a sales role, marking the beginning of her ascent within the company. She eventually held the position of Vice President of Sales before advancing to roles in HR, General Manager, and, ultimately, Vice President. Her career continued through several company transitions, including Pinetree’s acquisition by Laidlaw, where she remained a vital part of California Charter’s charter division.

In addition to her professional achievements, Darlene was a prominent voice within industry associations. She served on the California Bus Association (CBA) Board and held the presidency for multiple terms, where her leadership and advocacy left an indelible mark. Her colleagues admired her knowledge and respected her keen insight into resolving industry challenges, fostering trust and admiration among those she led.

Darlene retired in August 2014 under Coach USA/Pacific Coast Sightseeing. After that, she enjoyed her retirement with family, often traveling between California and Montana. A devoted Dodgers fan, Darlene was known for her enthusiasm for the team and was following their games the week of her passing.

Darlene’s daughter, Carrie Entenmann, shared a heartfelt message: “Our Mother was a go-getter and left an impression of hard work, dedication, and the importance of relationships with those she met. My brothers and I are blessed to have been raised by such a giving Mom.”

The funeral service for Darlene Cochran will take place on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at St. Cornelius Catholic Church, 5500 E. Wardlow Road, Long Beach, CA, beginning with a Rosary at Noon and a funeral service at 12:30 PM. A reception will follow in the church hall.

In place of flowers, donations in Darlene Cochran’s memory may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, honoring her legacy and dedication.
