Celebrating the Heart of Travel: Nominate a True Partner by December 31
This award celebrates someone who goes above and beyond in partnership and support.
In group travel, it’s never just about the destination. It’s about the people—the ones who greet you with a smile, make the logistics feel effortless, and go the extra mile not because they have to, but because they love to.
And that’s precisely what the Wayne Chandler Spirit of Partnership Award is all about.
Every year, this special award honors someone in our industry who lives and breathes the spirit of collaboration—someone who brings people together, builds lasting partnerships, and embodies the kind of heart that lifts us all.
Honoring a Legacy of Connection
Named in memory of Wayne Chandler, a beloved figure in the travel and tourism world, this award is more than a plaque or a title. It’s a tribute to a man whose legacy still echoes throughout our industry.
For over 30 years, Wayne helped shape the visitor experience in Nashville and across Tennessee through his work with Opryland USA, Gaylord Entertainment, and the Grand Ole Opry. But beyond his professional accolades, Wayne was known for something deeper—his warmth, his generosity, and his unwavering belief that partnerships are the heartbeat of travel.
He understood something vital: that tourism flourishes when we work together. When hotels collaborate with tour operators. When DMOs join forces with local attractions. When people pick up the phone not just to close a deal, but to build a relationship.
More Than a Recognition—A Reminder
The Wayne Chandler Spirit of Partnership Award recognizes individuals who reflect that same ethos. It shines a light on professionals who don’t just do great work—they lift others up while they do it. People who embody Wayne’s most cherished values: passion, respect, creativity, and an authentic spirit of service.
Past honorees include:
- Rich Gilbert, Maryland Office of Tourism, known for turning every connection into an opportunity.
- Lisa Catron, Memphis Tourism, whose global outlook never loses its personal touch.
- Adam Jacobson, Resorts World Catskills & NYC, a bridge-builder between destinations and experiences.
- And John Percy, CEO of Destination Niagara USA, whose leadership set the tone for what this award could and should celebrate.
Each of them has reminded us that real impact comes from working with others—not just alongside them.
Who Inspires You?

Nominate them. Let’s celebrate the people who remind us that this industry is powered by more than bookings and budgets—it’s powered by people who care.
