Celebrate the Spirit of Appalachia at the Museum of Appalachia
The Museum of Appalachia is ready for the holidays and is bringing exciting new events for 2025.
The Museum of Appalachia, nestled in Norris, Tennessee, has unveiled an exciting lineup of events for 2025 while gearing up for its cherished annual Candlelight Christmas, set to take place December 20-21, 2024. This beloved tradition captures the beauty and simplicity of an old-fashioned Appalachian Christmas, inviting visitors to step back in time.
The Candlelight Christmas event will showcase the Museum’s pioneer village adorned with authentic period decorations and illuminated by candlelight. Visitors can enjoy festive wagon rides, string popcorn for holiday decor, listen to Christmas storytelling, and participate in arts and crafts. Santa Claus will make special appearances, delighting children from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A holiday market featuring local artisans will provide the perfect opportunity for last-minute gift shopping. The festivities begin each evening at 4:00 p.m.
As the year transitions, the Museum of Appalachia looks ahead to an exciting calendar of events for 2025. Highlights include:
- Heroes of Southern Appalachia (February 28): A dinner and awards ceremony honoring those advancing Appalachian culture.
- Sheep Shearing Days (May 2 & 9): A hands-on educational event showcasing wool processing and Appalachian traditions.
- Barn Dance (June 13): A fundraising gala with Southern cuisine, auctions, and lively square dancing.
- Independence Day Anvil Shoot (July 4): A dramatic recreation of the pioneer tradition of anvil shooting to celebrate Independence Day.
- Fall Heritage Days (October 24, 30, 31, & November 7): A celebration of harvest season, complete with demonstrations and immersive cultural activities.
- Candlelight Christmas 2025 (December 19-20): The annual holiday event that continues to warm hearts year after year.
