Motorcoach Companies Helping Communities Devastated by Hurricane Helene

Hurricane Helene has left widespread destruction, impacting thousands of families and communities along the Atlantic Coast. Now, more than ever, our efforts can make a difference. Several motorcoach companies are stepping up to provide essential support, supplies, and aid to help these communities recover. Join us in this relief effort by donating or volunteering.

How You Can Help

You can get involved in the following ways:

  • Monetary Donations: Financial contributions go directly toward providing essentials like food, water, and shelter for those affected. You can donate directly to local relief organizations.
  • Supply Donations: Essential items like bottled water, canned goods, hygiene products, blankets, and first aid supplies are urgently needed. Find local drop-off points where you can bring these much-needed supplies.
  • Volunteer: Consider volunteering your time to help distribute supplies or assist with rebuilding efforts. Local organizations and motorcoach companies are organizing efforts to transport volunteers and supplies to the affected areas.

During ABA’s Marketplace and Busworld North America in Detroit, the Bus Industry Safety Council named Wade Stewart of All Aboard America, based in Mesa, Ariz., as the 2023 Motorcoach Driver of the Year. The Motorcoach Driver of the Year Award – sponsored by Motor Coach Industries – recognizes an individual who has gone above and beyond the performance of his or her duties as an Over-The-Road Motorcoach Driver, professionally executing safe motorcoach operation, while providing the traveling public with the safest form of passenger transportation in the United States.

“Wade is one of those drivers who you trust to go anywhere and do any type of trip without hesitation – the Operations Manager’s dream,” says Chris Moulton, general manager for All Aboard America. “Wade is also one of our Driver Mentors. He is always committed to building relationships with new drivers and teaching them everything they need to know about our industry, and what it means to work for AAA.”

Stewart was selected from among numerous qualified nominees from across the country and is the fourth person to be recognized with this award, which was created to recognize drivers who go above and beyond their duties in service to their company and fellow drivers while providing safe travel to passengers across the nation. With more than 1 million safe driving miles logged in his nearly 20-year career, Stewart is known not only for his considerable driving skills, but also for his exemplary customer service. In the last year, Stewart logged more than 50,000 accident-free miles.

“Motorcoach drivers are the face and backbone of our industry,” said Peter Pantuso,  ABA president & CEO. “They deliver millions of passengers safely each year to their destinations and provide top notch customer service. They are truly the representatives of our member companies that our customers always see and become the face of the operating company to them. People always remember their driver and the experience they had with them on a trip.”

In light of the ongoing driver shortage that many motorcoach companies are currently facing, providing an incentive to help with recruitment or retention is another benefit that ABA offers its members and the industry.
