BEWARE: ABA Marketplace Scams

We want to bring to your immediate attention a concerning issue that has arisen in the last few days. There has been an increasing number of scam calls targeting our members and Marketplace registrants regarding hotel reservations.

Important Details:

Scam Activity: The most prolific scam call is coming from 800-878-0113 from an individual named "Joseph." This caller is falsely claiming to offer an early bird rate for hotel stays in Philadelphia.

Our Process: ABA will be opening up hotel reservations on August 9, and we are not using any third-party affiliate to call you about those reservations, secure "special" low rates, or other offers. These calls are scams.

Action Steps

Do Not Engage: If you receive such a call from 800-878-0113 or other unfamiliar number, we suggest blocking the number to remove further contact from the scammer.

Official Reservations: The only way to secure your hotel reservations is through ABA and the Marketplace website. Information on how to make reservations will be posted on August 9, and we will send out a notice to all current registered attendees with information on how to secure your hotel booking.

ABA is committed to ensuring your safety and the security of your information. Please remain vigilant and do not engage with these fraudulent calls. If you have any questions or need further assistance, do not hesitate to contact us directly at (800) 283-2877.

ABAF Motorcoach Manufacturing Report Shows the Decimation of COVID-19 is Having on the Industry

The American Bus Association Foundation – the largest non-profit organization in the motorcoach and group travel industry, with an emphasis on research and scholarships – released its third quarter 2020 Motorcoach Builder Survey. Based on surveys of the major motorcoach manufacturers that sell vehicles in the United States and Canada, motorcoach sales from the participating manufacturers saw a sharp dive year over year.

Compared to the third quarter 2019 (Q319), the motorcoach coach sales in the third quarter of 2020 (Q320) fell nearly 50 percent. New vehicle sales in the over 45-feet vehicles fell 63.2 percent from 495 in Q319 to 182 in Q320. Vehicles between 30-40 feet fell by 96.2 percent down from 52 to 2. The only sector that saw moderate growth was 40-45-feet vehicles which grew from 14 to 16 in Q320. The used vehicle market fell 11.3 percent from 221 vehicles in 2019 to 196 in the same quarter in 2020.

“All aspects of the motorcoach industry have been devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic, including the manufacturing sector,” said Peter Pantuso, president of the ABA Foundation. “Industry owners are barely making ends meet as travel has come to a standstill in the United States. It is predicted that if the industry does not see some sort of relief from the government by the end of the year, between 40-50 percent of the industry will be out of business. This will flood the market with vehicles. It may take years for the entire industry to return back to 2019 levels.”
