ABA Urges Expansion of CDL Tax Incentive Bill

The American Bus Association (ABA) recently submitted a letter to the House Ways and Means Committee advocating for an expansion of the “Strengthening Supply Chains Through Truck Driver Incentives Act.” In the letter, ABA expressed support for the bill’s intent to address workforce shortages in commercial driving but urged lawmakers to extend the bill’s tax incentives beyond Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) holders to also include Class B CDL drivers to ensure equitable treatment for all commercial drivers who keep the country moving.
The bill’s current draft, introduced by Representatives Zachary Nunn (IA-03) and Pat Ryan (NY-18), focuses exclusively on the trucking industry. The ABA argues that this approach overlooks the motorcoach sector, which also faces critical driver shortages. ABA emphasized that motorcoach drivers take on additional customer service and passenger safety responsibilities, often transporting commuters, tourists, students, and seniors.
The ABA noted that the motorcoach industry is an essential part of the U.S. transportation network and economy, representing over 2,000 operators and generating more than $100 billion in annual economic activity.
