ABA Celebrates Our Roads, Our Safety Week

Share

May 5 – 11 marks the annual observance of Our Roads, Our SafetyⓇ Week, a pivotal initiative to educate users on safely sharing the road with large trucks and buses. Spearheaded by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), this nationwide campaign underscores the importance of understanding and caution when maneuvering these substantial vehicles, which are integral to our nation’s economy.

Focusing on achieving zero roadway deaths, FMCSA provides vital safety tips and resources to empower drivers to navigate safely alongside large trucks and buses. The centerpiece of this year’s event is the Our Roads, Our Safety Week fair on May 8, 2024, at the US Department of Transportation (USDOT) Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

At the fair, attendees will have the unique opportunity to engage directly with large trucks and motorcoaches, including a showcase of MCI’s latest J4500 model, representing ABA’s participation in the event. Through interactive experiences, participants will gain insights into the safety challenges faced by drivers, such as effectively navigating blind spots. An educational fair will also offer a wealth of information and resources to promote safe practices for sharing the road.

This event is a tangible demonstration of FMCSA’s unwavering commitment, alongside the broader safety community, to enhance road safety and prevent accidents involving large vehicles. By participating in Our Roads, Our Safety Week, individuals can contribute to fostering safer roads for all. Join the American Bus Association (ABA) and countless others in promoting awareness and embracing safer road practices throughout this important week. Together, we can make a significant impact in ensuring the well-being of road users nationwide.

Additional materials, including virtual meeting backgrounds, social media graphics with suggested messaging, coloring pages for kids, and an informational one-sheet for sharing, can be found at the FMCSA event page.
