Motorcoach Companies Helping Communities Devastated by Hurricane Helene

Hurricane Helene has left widespread destruction, impacting thousands of families and communities along the Atlantic Coast. Now, more than ever, our efforts can make a difference. Several motorcoach companies are stepping up to provide essential support, supplies, and aid to help these communities recover. Join us in this relief effort by donating or volunteering.

How You Can Help

You can get involved in the following ways:

  • Monetary Donations: Financial contributions go directly toward providing essentials like food, water, and shelter for those affected. You can donate directly to local relief organizations.
  • Supply Donations: Essential items like bottled water, canned goods, hygiene products, blankets, and first aid supplies are urgently needed. Find local drop-off points where you can bring these much-needed supplies.
  • Volunteer: Consider volunteering your time to help distribute supplies or assist with rebuilding efforts. Local organizations and motorcoach companies are organizing efforts to transport volunteers and supplies to the affected areas.

It's International Women's Month: Meet WIB Council Member Pam Blauvelt from Discover Newport, R.I.

Name: Pam Blauvelt
Company: Discover Newport, R.I.
City, State: Newport, R.I.
Years in the Industry: 15+ years

How did you first get involved in the industry?

My first internship in college was in hotel sales, my degree was in Travel and Hotel Management. I wasn’t sure where my path would lead but it was the right fit and I stayed in the hotel sales industry, throughout New England, for about 10 years.

Who has inspired your career?

One of my mentors is our CEO at Discover Newport, Evan Smith! He has a true passion for hospitality and tourism and inspired my career. I had the privilege to work with him at the start of my career in Connecticut and joined Discover Newport in 2019.

What has been the greatest challenge/opportunity in your career?

The greatest opportunity was coming to Newport and return to hotel sales after being out of the industry for almost 20 years. We raised our two daughters in Connecticut, and I worked in education and a lot of volunteering, until they were in college. I realized I was ready to return to the hotel/tourism industry and follow my dream in Newport.

What advice would you give to others about working in this industry?

My advice is to follow your dreams and where your passion lies. One thing to remember is family first.

Why is it important for you to belong to Women in Buses Council?

It’s been a great opportunity to network with many members in different industries and keep learning something new all the time. I feel it will make me a better partner and member!
