ABAF Launches 2025 Bus Census

Operators urged to respond by Feb. 5

Share

The American Bus Association Foundation (ABAF) has opened the 2025 Bus Census, a comprehensive industry study designed to measure the size and activity of the intercity and charter bus sector across the United States and Canada.

The census focuses on motorcoaches, also referred to in federal terminology as over-the-road buses (OTRBs). Vehicles in scope are designed for long-distance passenger transportation and do not include transit, school, or sightseeing buses.

ABA uses this kind of industry research to strengthen advocacy efforts at every level of government. Data from the Bus Census helps lawmakers understand the economic impact of motorcoach travel and the essential role our industry plays in moving people, supporting tourism, and connecting communities.

Operators are encouraged to complete the survey by February 5, 2026. If you are not sure who in your organization should submit the response, prompt your senior leadership to participate or direct the invitation to the person responsible for fleet, operations, or executive reporting. The accuracy of this research depends on broad industry participation.

This study is conducted in partnership with Tourism Economics, an Oxford Economics company. Questions or feedback may be directed to Omneya Fahmy, Senior Economist. Aggregated results will be released through ABA in spring 2026.

To help respondents prepare, we have provided the questions for reference before starting the survey.
