Improper solicitations from outside organizations are unfortunately common. While they may advertise lower rates, these offers can be misleading — reservations made through unaffiliated providers may:

  • Not be legitimate or secure
  • Not actually have the rooms to sell
  • Include unreasonable cancellation or change penalties
  • Or in some cases, be completely non-refundable

To ensure your reservation is safe and protected, we strongly encourage booking exclusively through Maritz Global Events.

Honoring the Legacy of Sandy Haines

Share

The motorcoach and group travel industry joins the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) in mourning the loss of Sandy Haines, director of group tour sales, who passed away peacefully after a remarkable career spanning nearly 34 years.

Sandy’s presence was a cornerstone of tourism in Myrtle Beach. With dedication, heart, and a deep love for her community, she played a vital role in building the region’s reputation as a welcoming, world-class destination for group tours. Her work brought thousands of visitors to the Grand Strand—particularly during the shoulder and off seasons—strengthening the local economy and supporting jobs and small businesses alike.

“We are heartbroken to lose Sandy, whose professionalism and warmth touched countless lives both inside and outside of the industry,” said Bob Harris, executive vice president of sales for Visit Myrtle Beach. “Sandy was more than a colleague—she was a friend, mentor and a passionate champion for the Myrtle Beach area. Her legacy will live on in the relationships she built and the economic vitality she helped sustain for our community.”

Sandy was more than a tireless advocate for tourism—she was a beloved figure across the industry, known for her quiet leadership, deep integrity, and enduring friendships. Whether guiding a first-time tour planner or welcoming returning groups with open arms, Sandy left a lasting impression of hospitality and professionalism.

Her decades of impact were recognized with well-earned accolades, including the prestigious Certified Tour Professional (CTP) designation from the National Tour Association in 2024 and the Spirit of TAP Award from Travel Alliance Partners. These honors are just a glimpse into a career defined not only by excellence but by heart.

“With deep gratitude and heartfelt remembrance, we honor the memory of Sandy Haines,” said Vicki Osman, CTIS, Senior Vice President, Meetings, Events & Education at the American Bus Association. “Her unwavering and longtime support shaped our industry, and her legacy will forever be part of ABA and Marketplace.”

A memorial service will be held on June 7 at 4:30 p.m. at Socastee United Methodist Church, 5575 Dick Pond Road.

Sandy’s spirit, her friendship, and her love for people and place will never be forgotten.
