FMCSA Online Registration Updates Now Available

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has restored online registration update functionalities, allowing motor carriers to efficiently file biennial updates, address changes, and other registration modifications through the FMCSA Portal. These services were temporarily unavailable as FMCSA implemented multi-factor authentication via the FMCSA Portal. However, as of January 20, 2025, these online options are fully operational again.
Avoid Processing Delays—Use the FMCSA Portal
Since the online options were taken offline, many registrants have been submitting paper forms to the FMCSA Contact Center, leading to a significant backlog and processing delays of over 30 days. Now that online registration updates are available again, FMCSA strongly encourages registrants to take advantage of these streamlined services. Online submissions can be completed in just minutes, offering a faster and more efficient alternative to paper forms.
Steps to Access the FMCSA Portal
To use the FMCSA Portal, registrants need:
- A Login.gov email address
- Their USDOT PIN
Creating an FMCSA Portal Account:
- Create a Login.gov account if you don’t already have one.
- If you have an existing Login.gov account, ensure it is linked to your FMCSA Portal account.
- To create a Company Official account, retrieve your USDOT PIN via email using the SAFER system. PINs can now be sent via text or email.
- Use an existing USDOT PIN if available. Registrants must have an active USDOT Number and a valid mailing address to retrieve a PIN.
- Complete FMCSA Portal registration.
- Access registration options and make necessary updates.
